Web scraper extension questions, answered
A web scraper Chrome extension is a browser add-on that reads the page you have open and turns repeated content — a product grid, a table, search results — into rows and columns you can export. It runs inside your browser, so it sees the page exactly as you do, including pages you are logged in to.
Install a no-code scraper, open the page with the data and let the tool find the list for you. In Easy Scraper AI you open the side panel, check the detected columns, choose how the site loads more items and press Start. There are no selectors or scripts to write. If the list isn't found automatically, you point at one item on the page.
Yes. Scrape the list, export it as a CSV file and open that file in Excel. Easy Scraper AI saves CSV files in a format Excel reads correctly, including accented and non-Latin characters. For a single plain table on a page, Excel's own "From Web" import can also work. Our step-by-step Excel guide covers both.
If the table is small, select it and copy it. For anything longer, or for lists that aren't real tables — product cards, search results — use a scraper: it detects the repeated rows, lets you drop the columns you don't need and exports the rest. Easy Scraper AI does this as soon as you open the side panel.
Tell the scraper how the site loads more items. Easy Scraper AI has three options under Paging: Next page for numbered pages, Load more for a button that adds items, and Scroll down for pages that keep loading as you scroll. It then repeats until nothing new appears. See the guide to scraping multiple pages.
Collecting information that a website shows publicly is generally lawful in many countries, but the details matter: what you collect, how you collect it and what you do with it. In the United States, the Ninth Circuit held in hiQ Labs v. LinkedIn (2022) that scraping publicly available pages is unlikely to violate the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act; the same dispute later showed that a site's terms of use can still be enforced as a contract. Personal data is also covered by privacy laws such as the GDPR. This is general information, not legal advice. Read the site's terms and ask a lawyer if the data matters to your business.
Whether a scraper uses AI doesn't change the legal question. What matters is the data: whether it is public, whether it is personal or copyrighted, and whether the site's terms allow the use you have in mind. In Easy Scraper AI the AI runs on your computer and only helps with setup, such as naming columns. It is not used to collect or send data anywhere.
Google's terms of service don't permit automated collection of its search results, and Easy Scraper AI isn't built for that. If you need Google data, use the exports and official APIs Google provides, such as Search Console or the Custom Search API.
It depends on the extension. Before installing one, check who publishes it, what it says about your data in its privacy policy and whether scraped data is sent to a server. With Easy Scraper AI, scraped rows are stored in your browser and never sent to us. You can read more about Easy Scraper AI.
Instant Data Scraper is a good fit for grabbing a single list. If you also need fields from each item's detail page, want to run a list of URLs or want JSON output, there are other tools. We compare the main ones, including ours, on the Instant Data Scraper alternatives page.
Automatic detection looks for items that repeat with the same structure. It can miss lists with only two or three items, items that each look different, or content that hasn't loaded yet. In Easy Scraper AI, click "Point at one list item" and click one item on the page, or scroll so the list is visible and click "Detect again".
When Chrome's built-in AI model can run on your computer, a bar appears at the top of the side panel. Type what you want in plain words, for example "title and price, all pages", and press Enter. A dialog shows what will change — which columns are kept, how the pages are followed — and nothing is applied until you click Apply. The "Tidy with AI" link above the fields gives the columns clearer names in one click, and each change can be undone. The first time, the panel asks before Chrome downloads the model. There is more detail in what an AI web scraper really does.
The AI helper uses a model that Chrome runs on your own computer, so it depends on your hardware. Chrome needs about 22 GB of free disk space to download the model, and stops using it when free space falls below roughly 10 GB; in that case the side panel says the AI helper is off because of disk space, and it comes back once space is freed. On browsers or computers that cannot run the model at all, the AI controls simply do not appear. Detecting lists, following pages, picking fields and exporting all work without it.
ChatGPT can read a page you give it and answer questions about it, but it isn't designed to walk through hundreds of result pages and hand back a complete table. A common setup is to scrape the data with a browser extension, export it as CSV and then give that file to ChatGPT to analyze.
Websites change their layout, so a setup that worked last month may need adjusting. Some sites limit how fast pages can be requested or block automated access. Scraped data can contain gaps or duplicates and should be checked before you rely on it. And not everything that is visible may be reused: terms of use, copyright and privacy law still apply.
